Support Services for Young Australians

Young people and community workers at Mission Australia are dedicated to providing tailored support that meets the needs of young Australians. This includes art and music therapy, alternative education, counseling, and mental health services. To ensure that the support provided is relevant to the needs of young people, Mission Australia conducts a national survey every year to gain insight into their needs. Youth Action is the leading youth organization in New South Wales, Australia.

It is headed by Kate Munro, who has extensive experience in the community and youth services sector. She specializes in youth participation, human and children's rights, youth development, and systemic advocacy in NGOs and local and state governments. She also serves as the Director of Engagement in the Office of the New South Wales Children and Youth Ombudsman. The National Information Framework for Youth (NIFY) provides key national indicators of the health and wellbeing of young Australians. This framework is designed to present a national overview of how young people are doing at any given time, so that it can be updated regularly and progress can be monitored.

It was part of the Commonwealth Youth Programme initiative which sought to increase focus on youth development through the presentation and collection of relevant data. It complemented the Commonwealth Youth Development Index. In 1990, YACON and DYSA merged to form Youth Action and Policy Association (YAPA), while YAA (now YFoundations) continued to be the leading provider of youth housing services. There are a variety of organizations that provide support services for young people, ranging from those that offer a wide range of services to those that focus on a particular aspect of children and young people's wellbeing such as child safety.
